Transmission Talk

Why do I need to flush my automatic transmission?

The automatic transmission in your car is essentially a gigantic hydraulic pump. It uses transmission fluid to transfer engine torque to the drive wheels through a "torque converter" to a series of valves and pumps to control fluid flow and pressure. As with the other fluid systems on your car, much is expected of this fluid and it deteriorates rapidly with heat, contaminants, and oxidation--it will tend to thicken over time and not flow as needed and reduce the efficiency of this unit, as well as shorten its useful life.

If your transmission fails it can be very costly and routine maintenance is the best way
Prevent that from happening.

What does a transmission flush do?

Our transmission flush service will dissolve and suspend gum in the system and then flush it out of the system. It also removes the old fluid and debris and refills it with new fluid. It can eliminate most hard shifting problems, chattering, slipping and provides cooler running operation while special additives will condition seals and prolong the life of your transmission!

How often should I service my transmission?

Most manufacturers recommend flushing the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. We also recommend flushing the fluid when it is dirty or smells burnt. Proper maintenance and flushing of the transmission are crucial in maintaining your factory warranty and also many extended warranties require that service as well. If your transmission fails and you cannot provide proof that routine maintenance has been done they may decline to cover the repairs if a failure does happen.

Timing Belt Talk

What is a timing belt?

Most vehicles today are using timing belts, which is a flat rubber belt with teeth. It synchronizes valve and piston movement inside your engine. They are lighter, quieter, more efficient and more economical than the timing chains that were more common on older vehicles.

Where is the timing belt located?

The timing belt is inside the engine. You can't see it when you open the hood. To find out if you have one, you can check your owner's manual or ask your service advisor who can quickly tell you if you have one and when it should be replaced.

Why should I have my timing belt replaced?

Like any other part on your engine the timing belt eventually wears out. Vehicle manufactures usually recommend timing belt replacement every 60,000-90,000 miles. It is very important to replace the belt before it breaks and may cause major engine damage.

What happens if my timing belt breaks?

The engine stops DEAD and the bad news is you will need a tow to a repair shop. In addition to the inconvenience, you will need to have the timing belt replaced. If your vehicle has an "interference" engine, your engine may have major internal damage when the belt breaks. A broken belt can result in an open valve being struck by a moving piston. This can damage valves, pistons, cylinder heads, and cylinder walls. In addition to the inconvenience and the cost of a tow you may need a new engine

Cooling System Talk

Why do I need to flush my coolant system?

Over time coolant is depleted of buffering ingredients and becomes extremely corrosive, literally eating holes in cooling system components. By-products of corrosion, as well as rust and scale, clog the passageways that conduct the water through the radiator and choke off the flow. This may result in an overheated engine that may be damaged beyond repair.

What does a cooling flush do?

The entire cooling system is first cleaned and then all debris and worn out coolant is completely flushed from the system. Then, fresh new premium coolant is added. Conditioners are also included to prevent rust and corrosion and BG Cooling System Sealer is also included to prevent leaks.

How often do I need to service my coolant system?

On most vehicles we recommend flushing the system every 30,000 miles or if the coolant is contaminated, is acidic, or its freeze point protection is not adequate.
Some vehicles have extended life coolant that can go longer then 30,000 miles and your service advisor can let you know if a coolant flush is not needed.

Fuel Injection Talk

Why do I need to clean my fuel injectors and intake system?

Over time deposits that build up in the fuel and air induction system of your engine have robbed your car of its agility and performance. Modern engines are finely tuned and extremely sensitive to deposits that accumulate on intake valves, intake ports, fuel injectors and combustion chambers. These deposits cause drivability problems such as hesitation, surge, stalling, hard starting, rough idle, and loss of power.

What does the cleaning do?

The fuel injection service or air induction service cleans these harmful deposits and allows the vehicles fuel system to operate properly. Clean fuel injectors will spray the correct "mist" pattern for maximum power and economy. Air and fuel will atomize and mix properly so the fuel burns more completely and you get more bang for your buck out of the gasoline that goes though your engine thus saving you money. Your vehicle will have more power and run smoother.

How often should I have my fuel system serviced?

Intake systems can build up deposits in as little as 10,000 miles. We recommend every 30,000 miles unless symptoms warrant it sooner. We recommend it as a part of a full tune up for best performance, economy and drivability.

On the picture below the injector on the left is clogged and restricted. The injector on the right is normally operating.
